The Whole Self Program

Looking after the whole child, not just the learning.

Our Whole Self Program here at Joy Villa Early Learning Centre nurtures every aspect of a child’s wellbeing—social, emotional, physical, and cognitive. Rooted in respectful relationships and everyday experiences, this program helps children feel confident, resilient, and empowered to care for themselves and others. Through play, routines, and intentional teaching, we guide children in building essential life skills that lay the foundation for lifelong success.

Four ways we nurture the whole child

Each part of the program supports a different side of your child’s wellbeing.

Independent Skills

We foster children’s growing independence by encouraging them to take responsibility for daily tasks. From packing their own bags and helping with mealtimes to dressing themselves and making simple decisions, children develop confidence and self-help skills in a supportive, age-appropriate way.

Healthy Living

Through guided discussions, cooking experiences, and movement activities, children learn about healthy eating, personal hygiene, exercise, and caring for their bodies. We empower children to make positive choices that support their physical and emotional wellbeing.

Emotional Regulation

Children are supported in recognising and expressing their feelings in safe and constructive ways. We use storybooks, role-play, and emotion cards to help children name their emotions, understand others’ feelings, and practice calming strategies like deep breathing or quiet spaces when needed.

Positive Relationships

We help children build trusting, respectful relationships with peers and educators. Through group discussions, turn-taking games, and cooperative play, children learn how to communicate kindly, share, listen, and resolve conflicts peacefully. Educators model empathy and guide children in developing strong social connections.
